Drywall Patching

Though plastering is our primary medium to fill patches, many customers are pleased to learn that we do drywall finishing patching as well, and in this scenario, we would use Sheetrock as a board substrate as intended.

In certain areas where not much fill is needed, a person who lives in a home with drywall finishing can also take advantage the same honest and clean approach that we would do a plaster patch over blue board.

Though always a challenge, matching existing textured finishes is something that we put great effort into, but there are situations where it makes more sense to go over the entire area with a layover.

Wooden Lathing Patching

Failed horse hair plaster exists in many areas of New England and is far more common than anyone would prefer. So many people love the subtle hairline cracks and the look and feel of the surface waves that time and age has created but what does a person do when the ceiling is falling or the walls are caving?
Many in the field will quickly say, “Let’s just Sheetrock over it and it will be better than new.” This can totally be done if the owner of the home has no care whatsoever of the integrity of the house. It would be the one wall or ceiling that would be perfectly flat and void of character in comparison to all of the other areas.

We, here at Gregoire a plastering, would rather open the ceiling or wall, find the cause of the problem and using glue between the plaster and the wood lathe, lock the perimeter of the patch in place and fill the middle with gypsum. The washers are only used to bring the plaster to the lathe while the glue hardens and bonds overnight. Then the washers are removed and with the existing perimeter secure, the plastering can continue.

The common mistake is to go too far into the plaster with the washers as if that will hold, but the reality is that it only breaks the plaster more. If a person leaves them out too far, then the patch becomes a noticeable bump because of the build up with plaster to cover them.
There is more to it but I’m sure that you have the idea.
